DescriptionJapanese antique pair of ranma (transom) carved with scenes of hawks (taka) on pine trees. This motif in Japanese art is called “matsutaka-zu”. The combination of pine trees and hawks (taka), which symbolized fighting prowess was a favorite subject of warrior-patrons of the 15th and 16th centuries.
