Description de herder = the shepherd The one who patiently walks the pastures in search of the best grazing for his flock. Read About Shepherds Inspired by this ancient practice, de herder was created from select parcels of carefully curated vineyards, to bring you a full-bodied and expressive wine made in the Kleinood winery. “The Kleinood winery, designed by owner, Gerard de Villiers, uses a clever combination of technology and tradition to work very softly with the grapes.” the winemaker’s diary de herder 2024 – A Study in Blending “This playful, yet confident, Rhône-style blend consists of Shiraz (67%), Mourvèdre (29%), and Cinsaut (4%), carefully sourced from the finest vineyards in Stellenbosch. The focus here is not on the single-vineyard terroir, but on the art of blending – combining the power of Syrah, the savoury structure of Mourvèdre, and the aromatic lift of Cinsaut.” Technical Notes tasting notes An enchanting medium ruby hue. The nose offers vibrant, forward fruit—fresh cherry, ripe plum, hints of thyme, and tobacco. On the palate, there is a sweet entry with round velvety tannins and a youthful freshness —the result of the gentle pressing and balanced acidity. The juicy body and good oak integration contribute to a spicey and fruitful finish. It is built for youthful enjoyment, with a cellaring potential of 5 years.
