About the photograph The photograph in this print is part of the multiple-award-winning series Flying Away, awarded Photographer of the Year at the IPA 2021 International Photography Awards for Architecture Professionals. The images in this series have been photographed in New York and they depict the Oculus structure designed by renowned architect Santiago Calatrava at Ground Zero, World Trade Center. The photograph was shot in New York and was first published in August 2020. This series is about traveling with your mind, flying like a bird to unknown territories and new experiences, living your life intensely every moment. When I look at the Oculus structure, the first thing that comes to my mind is a majestic white bird opening its wings to take flight. This is what inspired this series. One thing I like to do sometimes is to “Fly Away”, wander with my mind and then come back and find myself again. What I discovered during these “flights” is that life is too precious to let it pass without being aware at every moment of the fact that we are alive and we can have all the amazing experiences that life offers us. Life is too precious to be afraid to live these experiences to the fullest. Just through the simple fact that we exist on this Earth, we have access to so many experiences, and the more aware we are, the more we embrace them, the stronger they move us, the more they inspire us and make us who we are. All these experiences are such a powerful source of inspiration for my art. Both good and bad experiences, both suffering and happiness. They both enrich my life and make it fuller. The best thing I’ve learned by “flying away” is to not be afraid to live. Whatever life brings you, grab it and experience it. Without fear or hesitation. It will make you who you are. You will never know who you really are if you stand back and are afraid to live. This is what I’ve learned and I think it’s the most precious lesson in life.
